مرض القلب الروماتيزمي وهو من المضاعفات الخطيرة للعدوى بسبب المكورات العقدية البيتا الانحلالية (عدوى بيتا) في مرحلة الطفولة التي لا تعالج بالمضادات الحيوية.
الأسباب
غالبا ما تتطور الحمى الروماتيزمية عند الأطفال الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 5-15 سنوات. يستجيب الجهاز المناعي للجسم للبكتيريا العقدية التي تدخل الجسم أثناء عدوى الحلق، ولكن في بعض الأشخاص يهاجم الجهاز المناعي أنسجته الخاصة بدلا من البكتيريا، والأكثر شيوعا المفاصل وصمامات القلب والجهاز العصبي.
تسبب الحمى الروماتيزمية التهاب صمامات القلب أثناء العدوى، وحتى إذا تم علاج الالتهاب، فإن الضرر الناجم عنه يؤدي في بعض الأحيان إلى سماكة الصمام على مر السنين وفي النهاية إلى تضييق أو تسرب. الصمام التاجي هو الأكثر تأثرا، تليها الصمام الأبهري.
